This week residents in Senoia, GA may notice a few changes around town but the new structures aren’t permanent, they’re only props for The Walking Dead.

According to the show’s location manager Mike Riley, Senoia will serve as a sanctuary in the midst of a zombie apocalypse in the third season. “The town is walled off,” Riley said. “Inside the wall is a the safe zone and a benevolent dictator runs the town.”

According to the Newnan Times Herald, The Walking Dead will be filming for four days at the Newnan High School in Newnan, GA in early July.

Film crews have been approved to use the Newnan High School gymnasium for filming on July 7 and 8 and July 11 and 12. Filming will take place during the day and at night ( between 7 p.m. and 3-4 a.m.).

During that time they will shoot a scene in which survivors run into a hoard of zombies at the high school, which will be staged to look like an abandoned FEMA camp.

It looks zombies may be taking over the east coast this spring.

Not only is the zombie flick Plan 9 being shot in Virginia, but another zombie movie, Remains, will begin shooting in Connecticut in June, and AMC’s The Walking Dead is expected to begin shooting in Georgia in the next few weeks.

Remains is a post-apocalyptic zombie movie, based on the graphic novel by author Steven Niles and illustrator Kieron Dwyer, in which the undead are victims of a nuclear power plant explosion, meaning some will be listless from the effects of the radiation, while others will be energized.
