If you live in Richmond, Virginia and have made it a tradition to enjoy the Christmas tree at the Capitol being lit, well then you are out of luck. This year there will be no lighting ceremony…now if you are thinking budget cuts, think again, the ceremony has been canceled due to the new Steven Speilberg flick shooting on location at the capitol.

According to  Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, Spielberg is filming his new movie Lincoln at the capitol. He further adds, “I just know that as part of the agreement between the Commonwealth and DreamWorks productions that we had to keep several venues in and around Richmond reserved for them up through, I believe, December 10.”

Even though filming on Steven Spielberg’s latest project, Lincoln, just started in Richmond, VA, the director already has his eye on future projects, and possibly on filming in Michigan.

According to State Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, the state is currently in talks with Spielberg’s production company to bring an upcoming film to Michigan.

Richardville said they do not want an encore of what happened with Ironman 3, which chose to shoot in North Carolina next year, instead of Michigan because of the state’s film incentives.

Previously we reported that Steven Spielberg had met with Virginia film officials, now he has officially announced that he will start working on his long awaited biopic on Abraham Lincoln within the next year. According to rumors, the movie is to be based on “best-selling 2005 book ‘Team of Rivals’ by Doris Kearns Goodwin,” those who are familiar with the book will know that the story addresses the start of Lincoln’s political career as well as the power struggles with his cabinet.

The announcement comes nine years after Spielberg first expressed interest in development of the biopic and five years after asking Liam Neeson to play the president. Neeson however has denied being involved in the project, earlier this year he said “I’m not playing Lincoln now. I was attached to it for a while, but now I’m past my sell-by date.”

The highly anticipated Michal Bay/ Steven Spielberg produced film, I Am Number Four, has been shooting in the Pittsburgh area for the past couple of weeks and now we have a look at where they’ll be headed next.

This week, DreamWorks was given permission to film in two Alegheny County Parks, Deer Lakes and North Park, beginning this week (presumably, they started filming at one of the parks today as they spent Wednesday and Thursday filming in Vandergrift).
