Don’t forget, I’ve been keeping up with the movie set travel/travel inspiration over at my “day job” on Jaunted.com. Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to.

Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, opens nationwide on Wednesday to the usual Hollywood hype, but what sets the movie apart is that is was actually filmed where the real-life action once took place. Based on the life of gangster John Dillinger, who hid out for a short time in Northern Wisconsin until an FBI raid in 1934, the movie filmed in the dairy state.

The Proposal stars Sandra Bullock as a Canadian citizen, working in America, who is about to get deported. To avoid deportation, she forces her assistant, played by Ryan Reynolds, to marry her. The two then fly to Alaska to visit his family and break the news. The catch is, the movie was never actually filmed in Alaska, instead the Massachusetts coast stood in for the last frontier.

pelham

Pelham 123 stars Denzel Washington as a New York City subway dispatcher who finds himself up against a bitter ex-con (John Travolta) that hijacks one of his trains. The movie takes place and was filmed primarily within the NYC subway system, giving the rest of the world a look at the underbelly of New York City. Read more about the movie and the subway here.

NBC’s The Philanthropist premiere, The Paley Center, June 23rd

Filming News Wrap-Up: Public Enemies Premiere, Extras Needed for Hilary Duff Film, and More!

meryl_streep_by_brigitte_lacombe_2It looks like the Untitled Nancy Meyers Project will be filming in Santa Barbara for a while since several locations have been scheduled to be used in the film including De La Guerra Plaza, the Courthouse Sunken Gardens and portions of Highway 101 along the coast.

Morning Glory, a comedy about a TV morning news show starring Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams, begins filming in New York in two weeks.

Minor League: A Football Story is the latest feature film to shoot in Flint, MI.

Here’s a “photo” tour of some of the locations in Durham that either have been or will be used for the movie, Main Street.

I Am Not A Stalker partied with the cast of The Hills, while they were filming at a house in Malibu.

The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago announced that it is extending its world premiere run of Harry Potter: The Exhibition, which opens on April 30, 2009, by nearly three weeks due to the high demand for tickets. The exhibit, which was originally set to end its run on September 7, will now close on September 27, 2009.

Provinces of Night, starring Hilary Duff and filming in Wilmington, NC, is still looking for extras. For the past two days, they have been filming at UNC.

Finally, premieres have been scheduled for June in Wisconsin and L.A. for Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp. The movie filmed entirely on location in Wisconsin.

Public Enemies Set Pics from Wisconsin

Since filming began in the spring we have been bringing you reports from various Public Enemies filming locations throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.

Filming has officially wrapped but the benefits for Wisconsin will be long lasting as the film’s release will surely shine a spotlight on the state as a vacation destination.

Before wrapping up our Public Enemies coverage, we want to commend Johnny Depp for taking time to contribute to the Oshkosh, WI community before he left town. Often productions come in a community, film, leave, and never really learn about or make any investment in the location where they spend weeks working so kudos to Johnny!

Finally, here a few pictures Ty Helbach sent us from the set in Beaver Dam, WI on May 13th. Below is a picture of the crowd and a couple great shots of Marion and Johnny. Please check out Ty’s blog for more pictures and his account of the day’s filming. Thanks to Ty for sharing!
