According to Variety, Gerard Butler has replaced Eric Bana in the diamond-heist thriller Brilliant.

The movie follows a group of seasoned thieves who recruit a small-time crook as they prepare for the biggest diamond heist in history.

Variety also notes that the studio is still searching for a female lead before the project begins production this May in Boston.

It sounds like it could be busy a summer for Butler, who was recently released from rehab, since he is also attached to the film Thunder Road which is expected to begin filming (in Baton Rouge, LA) in May as well.

It looks like the producers of Captain Phillips have settled on a Massachusetts filming location for the movie.

Captain Phillips stars Tom Hanks as real life ship captain Richard Phillips who allowed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates in exchange for the safety of his crew. Phillips’ memoir which the movie is base on, A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, recounts his three days in captivity and his dramatic rescue.

As we reported last month, location scouts were looking for a farmhouse where Tom Hanks’ character would live  and they’ve found one. According to WCVB, Part of the film will be shot at Lincoln, MA’s Matlock Farm the last week in March.
