At least once a week someone asks us how they can be an extra in a specific TV show, and it’s usually the same few shows fans are most curious about – Gossip Girl, Glee, 90210, Supernatural, Law and Order: SVU, The Vampire Diaries, and a handful of other popular series.
So, in the interest of saving time, we thought we’d start a new weekly series giving a little bit of information about how to be a background actor in some of these shows.
This week we decide we’d take a look the hit Fox series Glee.
First, it’s important to know, as is the case with most TV shows, you need to live within close proximity to where the show is filmed – Los Angeles, CA.
Extras casting for Glee is handled by Sande Alessi Casting. To be considered for a role on the show you have to register with Sande Alessi Casting but, unfortunately, right now registration is closed. They do have a notice on their website stating that, “The Sande Alessi casting office will be re-opening in the next few weeks.”
On occasion, open casting calls for the show are also posted on the Glee Extras Casting Facebook Page and the Sande Alessi Casting Facebook Page. Last year they also held an open casting call for all types in the summer just before Glee started shooting season 3 which they might do again this year (another good reason to follow their Facebook page for updates).

You actually don’t have to be registered with Sande Alessi Casting. The only requirements are that you meet the age requirements for Students, Teachers etc… And of course that you are reliable and professional.
