Don’t forget, I’ve been keeping up with the movie set travel/travel inspiration over at my “day job” on Jaunted.com. Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to.

johnny_depp

Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, opens nationwide on Wednesday to the usual Hollywood hype, but what sets the movie apart is that is was actually filmed where the real-life action once took place. Based on the life of gangster John Dillinger, who hid out for a short time in Northern Wisconsin until an FBI raid in 1934, the movie filmed in the dairy state.

the_proposal

The Proposal stars Sandra Bullock as a Canadian citizen, working in America, who is about to get deported. To avoid deportation, she forces her assistant, played by Ryan Reynolds, to marry her. The two then fly to Alaska to visit his family and break the news. The catch is, the movie was never actually filmed in Alaska, instead the Massachusetts coast stood in for the last frontier.

pelham

Pelham 123 stars Denzel Washington as a New York City subway dispatcher who finds himself up against a bitter ex-con (John Travolta) that hijacks one of his trains. The movie takes place and was filmed primarily within the NYC subway system, giving the rest of the world a look at the underbelly of New York City. Read more about the movie and the subway here.

yesterday, Kimberlea went to the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City which is where they film The Late Show with David Letterman because Johnny Depp and Megan Fox were going to be on the program. She waited outside for about 4 hours, but it was worth it, because she met both Johnny Depp and Megan Fox. She even got autographs and pictures of each of them! Thanks to Kimberlea for sharing her story. The Late Show guest entrance has been one of the best celebrity sightings spots in New York for some years. If you’ve had a celeb encounter outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, let us know about it at olv@onlocationvacations.com!

GG tour

In celebration of Ed Westwick’s June 27th birthday, On Location Tours threw a special edition of their Gossip Girl Sites Tour.

Two busfuls of wannabe Upper Eastsiders donned their Gossip Girl finest for a lookalike contest. Many Blairs, several Serenas, a Little J or two, and yes, one Chuck, struck a pose and vied for the prize of a fabulous Henri Bendel gift basket. The prize went to a lovely Serena lookalike, a vision in red.

In addition to the standard activities of the Gossip Girl Sites Tour, the group also enjoyed birthday cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery on the steps of the Met (where Blair and company hold court at lunch). A street performer even joined the fun, serenading the group with “Happy Birthday” on the saxophone before breaking into several Michael Jackson songs as the crowd danced along.

You can see more pictures from today’s event here!

On Location Tours Gossip Girl Sites tour runs Fridays and Sundays at noon. We have an exclusive offer for OLV readers! When you purchase your Gossip Girl Tour Tickets, use the promo code OLV09 and receive 10% off your tickets!

And don’t forget Gossip Girl begins filming again in NYC on Monday, be sure to check back for location information!
