One of our readers, Eric B., was at the premiere of The Day The Earth Stood Still in NYC Tuesday night. He sent us the following report about the red carpet and the film. Thanks so much to Eric!
After getting there at around 4:30 the line was getting long. They said they’d give tickets out at 5PM but didn’t until 5:30 which annoyed some people. After getting the ticket we were given a beanie hat and a hand warmer (for the cold NYC night).
There were TWO theaters showing The Day The Earth Stood Still. That was the problem. One theater, the IMAX one, was for the celebrities, and the other, not IMAX one was for the public. That I hated. I got into the regular one sadly.
At around 5:56 a radio announcer started talking and brought up the director, Scott, who talked about the film for a second. He only stood for the press and interviewers. He didn’t sign any autographs sadly. Then the first guest started to come. It was Keanu Reeves. I was so happy! It was so kewl. He kept stopping for press, then turning around and doing autographs. I was able to get his autograph which I loved so much. He’s trying to bring in a beard but it’s coming in patches so it’s not sooo great, IMO.
Next was Kathy Bates who is much shorter in person. She walked down the carpet and really only did press sadly. When Kathy came on the announcer said there was a rumor of the Smith’s coming down tonight. Everyone got excited to think about Will coming and Jada too.
It was so cool. The whole family was there. Will was really happy to go down the red carpet for the autographs. Everyone wanted his. I sadly, didn’t’ get his which sucked. I did get Jada’s and Jaden’s. Jada was REALLY really nice to the public. She took photos with them and talked with them. Jaden was also nice. He tried to get in every autograph he could but being 10 I could see how he could get tired after a few. Will Smith was having the time of his life. Smiling, laughing. Taking photos with people, etc…. shaking hands. His hands are not so big compared to mine actually. Lol.
John Hamm was also there. I had no idea he was in the movie so I was asking people why a Mad Men was here. lol. The guy from The Soup, a guy from the Monkey’s, and John Cena was also there. Jennifer Connolly. came at the very end and had only time to do interviews sadly. Her dress was like blue glass with a striped of a lighter shade of blue coming down her back. She is very skinny IMO.
The movie itself, I would not call a remake. It strays far away from the original but tries to get close. If it were called something else, I’d like it but as a remake, it’s just not so great.
