Rescue Me is filming at Wagner College on Staten Island.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent is filming near Chambers St and Centre St in Manhattan.

Fringe is filming in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. This is a night shoot, it won’t start until after 5 PM.

The Surrogates is filming on South Street in Boston.

Normally, I don’t include “reality shows” but I think Samantha Brown is so cute so I will make an exception, she is filming her Travel Channel Show in Cape Cod this week.

This week Journey to the Center of the Earth opens nationwide and is receiving more buzz for its digital 3-D effects than for its plot or acting. But what it lacks in storyline it makes up for in location. The movie is not only set in Iceland but was also partially filmed there.

Iceland is becoming a hot travel destination because of its diverse landscape that includes glaciers, hot springs, geysers, volcanoes, and lava deserts. Since Iceland isn’t exactly a tourism Mecca it is hard for many (including me) to picture what it is like or what there is to do. MTV sent a reporter to Iceland for a week and she posted details from her trip on their blog. I wouldn’t normally consider MTV a great travel resource but this is actually an excellent overview.

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and a good “home base” as it is the most populous city in Iceland. Like most cities there is an art scene, shopping, and many restaurants specializing in seafood. But to really get the full experience no trip to Iceland is complete without venturing out. Here are few recommended excursions.

The only real downfall (and the reason why few actually visit Iceland) is it can be cost prohibitive. You can cut expenses by staying in a hostel rather than a hotel and traveling by bus pass rather than car. It may also be more cost effective to take an all inclusive tour of Iceland. Another option might be winning a trip. Iceland Naturally is sponsoring a contest for 3 nights all expenses paid if you want to try your luck.

Journey to the Center of the Earth has shined a much needed spotlight on one of the earth’s most unique destinations. With the movie’s release, Iceland is sure to be added to everyone’s must see list.

New on DVD

Here’s the best of what is new on DVD this week and of course where they were filmed.

Impact Point

The only reason I am even mentioning this straight to video release is because it stars Brian Austin Green and I feel strongly about supporting my 90210 peeps (speaking of which Nat is coming back ). This mediocre story of a volleyball player who starts having strange things happen to her after meeting a mysterious reporter was filmed primarily in Long Beach California. Sounds riveting, huh?

Stop-Loss

This drama tells the all too realistic tale of a solider who is ordered to return to Iraq even though he has completed his tour of duty. Stop-Loss was shot in film friendly Santa Clarita, CA, Morocco, and various points throughout Texas including Austin, Lockhart, San Antonio,Uhland, and The Double C Ranch.

Sleepwalking

This, at times heavy, drama about a young girl who is abandoned by her mother was filmed in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The Ruins

The Ruins might not be the best movie released on DVD this week but it definitely has the best location, the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The Tracey Fragments

This film may not be for everyone but its filming locations throughout Ontario, Canada sure are. The coolest thing about this movie is Tracey: Re-fragmented. The filmmakers sponsored a contest in which they made all of the uncut footage available to amateur filmmakers to reedit. The winning entry is featured on the DVD.

Since filming began in the spring we have been bringing you reports from various Public Enemies filming locations throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.

Filming has officially wrapped but the benefits for Wisconsin will be long lasting as the film’s release will surely shine a spotlight on the state as a vacation destination.

Before wrapping up our Public Enemies coverage, we want to commend Johnny Depp for taking time to contribute to the Oshkosh, WI community before he left town. Often productions come in a community, film, leave, and never really learn about or make any investment in the location where they spend weeks working so kudos to Johnny!

Finally, here a few pictures Ty Helbach sent us from the set in Beaver Dam, WI on May 13th. Below is a picture of the crowd and a couple great shots of Marion and Johnny. Please check out Ty’s blog for more pictures and his account of the day’s filming. Thanks to Ty for sharing!

UPDATE: Ty sent us a few more pics from the Public Enemies shoot in Madison. Check out the pictures of the set including a shot of Billy Crudup and another of Christian Bale!
